Why Stonewater?

Bring your whole self to work

As a Stonewater colleague, you’re encouraged to bring your whole self to work. This means feeling welcome, valued, and having a voice. We’re committed to being a truly inclusive organisation with equality and diversity at the heart.

Our colleagues have the opportunity to be part of four independent employee networking groups. These groups provide a voice for colleagues from underrepresented communities and challenge the business to become an even more inclusive place to work.

Learn about our networking groups on our dedicated EDI page.

Our accreditations help us to embed equality, diversity and inclusion into everything we do. We’re a Disability Confident Employer and are working towards Menopause Friendly Accreditation. We’re also proud to have achieved the accreditation of Exemplary Employer for the Investing in the Ethnicity Maturity Matrix, and to have been named one of the Top 10 Outstanding Organisations in the UK Ethnicity Awards.

Step up to Manager programme

We know there’s no limit to our colleagues’ potential. Our popular Step Up To Manager programme, open to everyone, aims to equip and inspire new and aspiring leaders.

Here’s what one colleague shared with us following completion of our Step Up To Manager Programme:

“The Step up to Manager programme has clearly paid off as I'm starting my new management role soon. I have grown so much during my time with the organisation, and I think that the programme helped equip me with the mindset to really shine in my interview.

My interview feedback was that I ‘lit up the virtual room’ with my passion and practical and empathetic approach to how I would tackle the role, and that is in no small part thanks to my ongoing Stonewater journey and some of the pauses for thought brought up in some of the Step up to Manager sessions”.

Reverse Mentoring

Following a successful pilot in 2022, we are continuing our Reverse Mentoring programme, an opportunity for colleagues to support and educate our senior leaders on the barriers to employment progression for people from under-represented groups. It’s about supporting a change in culture and giving an insight into the diversity of life through the sharing of unique lived experiences.

The programme lasts for approximately 10 months and includes workshops, group check in sessions, and six one-to-one mentoring sessions with your senior mentee.

Excellent benefits

We pride ourselves on being a great place to work, and as such we need to ensure the way we reward people at Stonewater is fair, consistent, and transparent.

We offer competitive rates of pay as well as a suite of other incredible, award winning benefits.

Flexible working environment: We’re committed to helping our colleagues balance their work and home life and will consider a range of flexible working arrangements to support this. Many of our colleagues are entirely home-based and our hybrid working culture enables all our colleagues to work however suits them.

Employee Assistance Programme: Our Employee Assistance Programme provides information, advice and counselling on a variety of personal and workplace issues, and is available to employees and their family.

£10,000 Home Workspace Loan / Eco-Friendly Home Improvement Loan: We offer the opportunity for you to borrow interest fee money to create a defined workspace in your home, or to create additions or amendments to your home that make it more environmentally friendly and sustainable. These changes can help to ensure you have a safe and healthy space in your home environment to support your overall wellbeing.

Flu vaccine and HRT via expenses: All colleagues are able to purchase the Flu Vaccination and claim this back via expenses, as well as claiming back the cost of their annual HRT Prepayment Certificate.

Bupa Healthcare: Our Bupa Health Cash Plan enables you to claim back the cost of routine health expenses, including dental check-ups, eye tests, physiotherapy and prescriptions.

MyOwnHome: We also offer colleagues the chance to own their own home at a fraction of the cost through our myOwnHome shared ownership initiative.

As part of our Vision for everyone to have the opportunity to have a place that they can call home, we recognise that for many people, home ownership is an aspiration that is out of reach. That’s why we set up the initiative back in 2018.

Put simply, Stonewater can purchase an eligible home on a colleague’s behalf and lease it back to them at a share they can afford. Read our news to see how the initiative has helped more than 30 colleagues so far.
