Our colleagues acted quickly to house a victim of modern slaver

When one of our Tenancy Services Officers (TSO) Hayley* was on a home visit - she was met by a police officer.

The person was taken to the police station, where they gave evidence. Stonewater was told to find the person alternative accommodation immediately.

Hayley called her colleague Sophie*, who sits in Stonewater’s Voids and Allocations Officer (VAO) team, to try and find a new home for the customer. Sophie explained that the customer was eligible for a home in a nearby Retirement Living scheme - and there was a home available.

Working with the police, Sophie and Hayley worked together to ensure the customer could move into the home as soon as possible. Hayley prepared the paperwork for the customer to sign so his tenancy started immediately.

When the resident arrived at the flat, he met Service Delivery Officer (SDO) Chris*, who showed the customer around his new, furnished home.  Chris also liaised with the police and the local council, to arrange for his personal belongings brought to him over the next few days.

Since moving into his new home, the customer  has expressed how grateful he is  to be taken out of a situation and moved into a safe environment.
