Copley Mill House and Threadneedle Court, both in Halifax, each received investment of close to £1 million for refurbishment work and are two of a number of retirement living schemes to benefit from the affordable housing provider’s five-year investment plan.
Residents at both schemes were consulted about the improvements they would like made to the accommodation, with contemporary décor, furnishings and artwork included. Communal areas have been given an uplift while landscaped gardens featuring wildflowers and seating areas have also been created.
Copley Mill House, which comprises a mix of 28 one, two and three-bedroom flats, and Threadneedle Court, which is home to 29 one-bedroom flats, both received new health hubs along with guest bedrooms for friends and relatives to stay in while visiting.
Glenn Loftus, Strategic Partnership Manager at Stonewater, said: “The major investment in these two schemes is part of Stonewater's ongoing commitment to upgrading our provision for customers aged over 55.
“We understand the importance of mental health, particularly among older people, and the enhanced gardens and communal spaces have made a big difference to the lives of residents, helping to alleviate loneliness and encourage socialisation. The feedback we have received from customers has been extremely positive and we are looking forward to rolling the programme out to many more schemes in the coming years.”
One customer at Copley Mill said: “It’s so lovely, it’s a good place to live and I don’t think it’s ever been as nice as it is now.”
While a second customer added: “Now we have more modern furniture, it’s much more pleasant to what it was before. We all feel looked after here too and our families don’t need to worry about us as they know we’re safe.”
Stonewater is continuing to invest in their retirement living homes and is in the process of drawing up detail designs for schemes in the Midlands, which is due to start on site in 2024.
