Partners and suppliers joined the housing provider to discuss eco challenges and possible solutions at the first virtual round table Environmental Forum event.
Following a keynote address from Megan Adlen, Group Sustainability Director at Travis Perkins, the working group explored responsible sourcing, reduction of single-use plastic and implications for the trades industry.
The working group now plans to meet quarterly to share learning and best practice around sustainability for the benefit of the sector, customers and the planet.
Members are committed to working collectively to have a greater influence over the supply chain on matters including data on materials’ carbon footprint and ways to reduce the use of plastic and packaging.
Forum chair Adam Masters, Environmental Sustainability Manager at Stonewater, said: “This is the first time our contractor partners have had the opportunity to ask questions directly of a major supplier in this sort of forum.
“Their collective buying power means we can have much greater influence engaging with the supply chain.
“It was fantastic to see representation from across our partners, demonstrating that they share our values and drive to improve the energy efficiency and running costs for our customers, whilst minimising our overall impact on the environment.”
Partners include Bailey’s Heating Company, Wates, Correct Contract Services, Aaron Services, Ian Williams, BSW Heating, Bell Group, Fortem, Saltire Facilities Management and Hereford Heating.
The forum’s next meeting will invite discussion following a presentation from an expert on electric vehicle fleets.
Catherine Evans, Director of Asset Operations at Stonewater, said: “We recognise the need for sustainable, value-adding partnerships across all areas of our business and the need to maintain positive relationships with like-minded organisations.
“Our new Environmental Forum demonstrates this sort of co-operative working at its best, with a range of our partners coming together to achieve a common goal.”
